*Window air conditioner and fans, check before using*
Warmer weather is rolling in most parts of the country. Homeowners will start up existing or adding new window air conditioners and fans.
The existing unit cord and the plug outlet that will be used needs to be looked at to make sure they are not showing signs of over usage or wear. The electrical loads that are put on these items may overhead with loose connections. The use of the unit by itself may cause a loose connection from the metals expanding and contracting. This in turn can become a big fire hazard. Copper wiring helps eliminate some of the issues in loose connection. Make sure ALL plugs and switches on the circuit have tight connects.
Check the circuit that you are using to see if it can handle the load of the wall air conditioner. Many homes have older panels that the breakers do not always trip when they are suppose to and overloading them is another fire hazard in the waiting.
Wall fans do not pose as big of a problem but the usage of them is more consistent of being on all the time.
